Safety and environment

Our machinery safety services focus on verifying the conformity of machines and machine combinations according to the Machinery Directive (2006/42 EC). The CE marking is a visible indication by the machine manufacturer that the safety requirements have been met. We compile the CE documentation required for the marking, which includes the actual design documentation such as manufacturing drawings and strength calculations. In addition, we prepare other necessary “technical file” documents, such as risk assessment documents, machine operating and maintenance instructions and the declaration of conformity.

In fulfilling health and safety requirements, we use machine type-specific harmonised standards, in which the presented solutions are applied in accordance with the risk assessment during the design phase. In risk assessment and design, we also take into account other directives that affect machinery safety, such as ATEX (2014/34/EU) and PED (2014/68/EU), the requirements of which are included as part of the technical documentation as specified by the relevant equipment directive.

We ensure the safety of your industrial site by identifying risks, for example using the HAZOP risk assessment method. Based on the risk assessment, we can select and target the right measures to achieve sufficient safety. Our main goal is to help you ensure the occupational safety of your site and reduce the risk of harmful environmental impacts in compliance with Finnish chemical legislation (390/2005 and 685/2015).

We provide expert and tailored service to ensure process safety, especially the design and documentation of SRS systems according to the Functional safety standard SFS EN 61508 and the life cycle model. (Safety Related System). SRS documentation supports risk analysis, identifies critical parts and ensures that processes meet safety requirements (SIL) at all stages – from design to commissioning and maintenance.

We also offer design services for the preparation of chemical notifications and documentation required for chemical permits. The documentation includes, among other things, a chemical list, a chemical hazard report, a storage plan, spill management, and an internal rescue plan.

We help you ensure the safety of your premises and production equipment when handling flammable and explosive substances. When an explosion hazard is present in the workplace, all processes in which flammable substances occur must be assessed and the facilities intended for their handling must be classified. Before commissioning the facilities, an explosion protection document must be drawn up, which shows the explosion hazards of the workplace and indicate the protective measures taken to prevent them.

We perform classifications of explosive areas, as well as equipment selection and electrical and machine design for ATEX spaces. We also perform machine and electrical installations for potentially explosive areas and ensure the safety of machines and process equipment in accordance with the area classifications.

When purchasing and modifying production machinery and equipment, new load-bearing structures are often required for the site. The professional design and implementation of these structures are essential for operational safety and may require regulatory oversight. We ensure that steel and concrete structures associated with machinery and equipment installations meet the requirements of the EU Construction Products Regulation (EU No. 305/2011).

We offer a wide range of environmental and sustainability expert services. Our range includes regulatory investigations and permit matters, as well as sustainability reporting for small and medium-sized companies.

We help ensure that your operations meet the relevant legal obligations. According to the Finnish Environmental Protection Act (527/2014), an environmental permit is required for activities that pose a risk of environmental pollution. We prepare and update the environmental permit application and other necessary documents, such as a precautionary measure plan. We also help promote the circular economy and material reuse. The end of the waste state of a material is applied for with an end of waste permit application (EoW application) in accordance with the Finnish Waste Act (646/2011).

We assess the environmental risks of your site and plan the necessary risk management measures. The environmental impacts of operations can be limited, for example, by choosing the materials and chemicals used, managing waste and wastewater, and increasing energy efficiency. Environmental risks can be reduced by proactive and careful measures, such as appropriate firefighting wastewater management.

We offer emissions calculations according to the SFS-EN ISO 14067:2018 standard and we also calculate the life cycle emissions of each of our own products! In addition, expert services are available to support voluntary sustainability reporting (VSME) for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Our qualified, Energy Authority-authorized, responsible person ensures that the mandatory, four-yearly energy audit of large companies and site audits are carried out in accordance with the Finnish laws: the Energy Efficiency Act, the Government Decree, and the general guidelines of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy (TEM).
